Several cities across Sindh, including Karachi, experienced varying intensities of rainfall on Thursday, significantly improving the weather conditions while simultaneously causing disruptions due to windstorms and dust storms in some areas.
In Karachi, rainfall commenced at different times throughout the day, ranging from mild drizzle in some localities to heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning in others.
Areas including Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Memon Goth, Shah Latif Town, Razzaqabad, and Bhains Colony witnessed intermittent rain, providing much-needed relief to citizens from the prevailing heatwave.
Other regions of the city, such as North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Manghopir, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Saddar, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, experienced heavy rainfall coupled with intense thunderstorm activity and strong winds.
Rainfall was also persistent around Steel Town, Pipri, Port Qasim, Ghaghar Phatak, Kathore, Gadap, the M9 Motorway, and near Jinnah International Airport. Intense rainfall near the airport reportedly caused partial disruptions to flight schedules.
Beyond Karachi, the weather shift was evident across various other Sindh districts. Heavy rain inundated low-lying areas of Hyderabad, Qasimabad, Latifabad, Thandi Sarak, and Auto Bhan Road, causing water accumulation.
In Sukkur, intense rainfall triggered technical faults, resulting in over 60 electrical feeders tripping and disrupting power supply to several city neighborhoods.
Mirpurkhas, Matiari, and Sanghar also received substantial rain accompanied by strong winds, enhancing the weather but causing considerable inconvenience due to storms and blowing dust.
In Shikarpur and surrounding areas, strong gusts of wind and dust storms significantly disrupted traffic flow on the National Highway and the Indus Highway.
Meanwhile, Tando Allahyar witnessed heavy rainfall amid stormy conditions, and powerful winds in Tando Muhammad Khan resulted in damage to several mud houses, blowing off roofs and causing distress to residents.
